Our Story

Steve & Monique Lubiana

It all began in 1987 when Steve met Monique after Steve returned from France from interning in Champagne and decided that he really wanted to make sparkling wine in the coolest region of Australia. They began to map a future but their only real option was to move to Tasmania. There were already grapes planted in Tasmania and they could see the potential for greatness. In 1990 they found the perfect property, took a risk and put all their cash on the line plus worked hard. Super happy and nearly 30 years later they have weathered the good and the bad and have achieved so much with many helping hands. The 25Ha vineyard was converted to Biodynamics in 2010 with certification achieved in 2013. Biodynamics provides protection for their environment, employees and customers from chemicals, and as a bonus it makes a better wine.

Wine Club

Buon Gusto means “good taste” and that is what we are all about here at Stefano Lubiana Wines & Osteria.
Buon Gusto gives you guaranteed access to our limited release small batch wines and you will earn rewards along the way.
We want to keep the member numbers low so we can keep the quality of wines high, at this moment there aren’t any vacancies in the club however email members@slw.com.au to join the waiting list today.


An Osteria can be described as a small ‘farmhouse’ style eatery in Italy. Often they don’t have a menu and the dishes are created with what is local and in season.

Our Osteria’s menu is fresh, seasonal and based around what comes out of our biodynamic vegetable garden. We harvest honey from our own bees, we pickle and preserve our produce and we make all our own bread from organic flours in our wood fired oven. We source free-range meats from local farmers and use wild caught seafood from the pristine waters of Tasmania.

Our beautiful copper pot still was commissioned in 2015 and we have been perfecting & ageing our fine Italian style spirits ever since.
